YANGZHOU UNIVERSITY DELEGATION EXPLORES UPM’S AGRICULTURAL INNOVATIONS

SERDANG, February 28, 2024, Yangzhou University (YZU), China, along with several delegates, embarked on an exploration of the latest agricultural initiatives at the Putra Agriculture Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

This visit was a collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM and Yangzhou University, China. The delegation was led by Vice President Professor Dr. Liu Qiaoquan and Professor Dr. Yang Zefeng, Dean of the College of Agriculture at YZU. Three other professors also joined the delegation. The purpose of their visit was to strengthen cooperation and exchange views on agricultural practices and innovations between YZU and UPM.

The delegation was warmly welcomed at the Putra Agriculture Center, where they were taken to visit various innovative projects:

  • Poultry and Livestock Units: They observed the latest practices in the management of chickens and livestock.
  • Agrotechnology Section: Discussions focused on innovative techniques in agrotechnology and sustainable agriculture.

During the field visit, the delegation explored several key projects:

  • Farm 15, Faculty of Agriculture: Integrated farming projects involving chickens, sugarcane, and pineapples.
  • Duck and Quail Breeding Projects: Showcasing sustainable breeding techniques.
  • High-Value Plant Project: Demonstrating the cultivation of melons and vegetables using advanced technology.
  • Mushroom Project: Insights into mushroom cultivation techniques.
  • Fertigation Chili Project by PROBEST: Demonstrating efficient water and nutrient management in chili cultivation.
  • Hydroponic Melon Project: Supporting young entrepreneurs through innovative hydroponic farming methods under the PROBEST initiative.

The vice president of YZU shared valuable insights into their university’s agricultural production methods, encouraging mutual learning and potential research collaborations between the two institutions.

This visit not only strengthened bilateral relations between YZU and UPM but also highlighted UPM’s role as a centre for agricultural innovation and sustainable development. Such exchanges are crucial in advancing global agricultural practices and promoting youth entrepreneurship in the field of agriculture.
