SERDANG 21 FEBRUARY 2024- Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration with OBYU Holding Sdn Bhd to revolutionize the agricultural landscape in Sarawak. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UPM and OBYU Holding Sdn Bhd marks a significant step towards enhancing the research and development of maize, sorghum, and coconut crops in the region.

The joint venture will unfold on a sprawling 75-hectare site at UPM Bintulu Campus, Sarawak. This initiative is set to revolutionize the local food supply chain while providing an economic boost to the community.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, UPM Vice Chancellor, Dato' Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd. Sadullah, emphasized the partnership's role in advancing food security goals, particularly in Sarawak. He highlighted the pivotal research initiatives that will drive sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

"This collaboration underscores UPM's commitment to tackling national challenges by introducing innovative agricultural practices. Together with OBYU Holding Sdn Bhd, which specializes in food security, research and development, agrotourism, biogas, and livestock feed, UPM aims to empower the agricultural sector," stated Dato' Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd. Sadullah.

This alliance promises not only to fortify food security in Sarawak but also to propel UPM as a leader in agricultural innovation, fostering economic resilience and sustainability in the region.
