LIVESTOCK DIVISION

 

Introduction

The Livestock Division (BTE) is one of the divisions found in the PPP. This division is located east of the UPM campus and is surrounded by the North-South Expressway, SILK Expressway, SKVE Highway and is crossed by ERL services. The area of ​​livestock is now estimated at about 120 hectares which includes administrative offices, dairy farms, grazing fields for cattle, deer, goat pens as well as ponds, endowments and horse riding tracks.

The main functions of the Livestock Division are:
• To support the university's goals in teaching, research and practical training of UPM students.
• Make the UPM area an "Educational Meadows" concept where there are fenced areas, grazing areas, shade trees, ponds and equestrian track with educational elements.
• To make livestock areas viable areas in livestock production using the latest technology.
• To maintain a green campus atmosphere and to be the location of ‘agrotourism’ with environmentally friendly activities.
• To provide facilities and areas for recreational and leisure activities.

The Livestock Division is managed by a Division Head with the assistance of three section heads, namely Equine and Pasture Section, Large Ruminant Section (Meat and Dairy), Small Ruminant Section (Goat and Deer) and Reservoir. The strength of the staff in the Livestock Division is 29 people including four agricultural officers, a veterinary officer and six assistant officers.

Objective

BTE is responsible for meeting the quality objectives related to the livestock management process to support teaching, research and practical activities. Activities carried out include the process of management and care of ruminant livestock, non-ruminant livestock and pasture at the University Agricultural Park.
